If you’ve got a website but didn’t build it yourself, it’s surprisingly common not to know exactly what it’s running on. WordPress powers a huge percentage of websites, but unless someone has told you, it’s not always obvious.
If you’re wondering how to tell if a website is WordPress, there are a few simple checks you can do.
How to Tell If a Website Is WordPress
1. Try logging into your website
The easiest way is to try visiting:
yourwebsite.co.uk/wp-admin
If you see a login screen, there’s a very good chance your site is WordPress.
2. Check the appearance of the login page
A WordPress login page usually looks quite plain, with:
- Username and password fields
- A “Lost your password?” link
- The WordPress logo (sometimes customised)
3. Look at the page source
If you’re comfortable doing this:
- Right-click your site
- Click “View page source”
Then search for “wp-content” or “wp-admin”
If you see those, it’s WordPress.
4. Ask your developer or hosting provider
If you’re still unsure, the quickest answer is often just to ask.
