How Do I Know If My Website Is WordPress?

If you’ve got a website but didn’t build it yourself, it’s surprisingly common not to know exactly what it’s running on. WordPress powers a huge percentage of websites, but unless someone has told you, it’s not always obvious.

If you’re wondering how to tell if a website is WordPress, there are a few simple checks you can do.

How to Tell If a Website Is WordPress

1. Try logging into your website

The easiest way is to try visiting:

yourwebsite.co.uk/wp-admin

If you see a login screen, there’s a very good chance your site is WordPress.

2. Check the appearance of the login page

A WordPress login page usually looks quite plain, with:

  • Username and password fields
  • A “Lost your password?” link
  • The WordPress logo (sometimes customised)

3. Look at the page source

If you’re comfortable doing this:

  • Right-click your site
  • Click “View page source”

Then search for “wp-content” or “wp-admin”

If you see those, it’s WordPress.

4. Ask your developer or hosting provider

If you’re still unsure, the quickest answer is often just to ask.

Why it matters

Knowing your site runs on WordPress helps you:

  • Get the right support
  • Install the right tools
